Zendesk Alternatives for Online Stores

Zendesk alternatives compared for an online store: what each one knows about your orders, where it answers, and who sets it up.

Choosing a Zendesk alternative: Stefano Bertoli, founder of RuleInside, with a card reading: Of 14 Zendesk alternatives, only 2 read your orders.

An operator on the Shopify Community gave store owners a sequence for support. If most questions repeat, “first invest in a good help desk and some automation before hiring more people”.[1] Looking for a Zendesk alternative puts you on that first step.

The same operator said what that help desk should do for a store. The answer is “giving support agents all the relevant order information in one place”.[2] The lists that rank for this search rarely say which ones do. Of the 15 pages, 12 come from companies that sell support software, and 10 of those rank their own first.[3]

Over four years I consulted more than 30 businesses across Italy, Spain and the US, ecommerce stores among them. I now run RuleInside, which sells a managed AI agent, not a help desk. So it is not in the list, and I say where it fits after it.

This guide compares each Zendesk alternative on five tests that decide it for an online store, starting with your orders. There are no prices here. Each company’s own page has current ones.

Key takeaways

  • Most Zendesk alternatives can show your team a customer’s orders. Far fewer let their AI answer from them.
  • On WooCommerce, check who built the store connection. Often it is another company, or you.
  • Zendesk added a WooCommerce connector in September 2026, so staying can be the right call.
  • A help desk organises the answering. Decide who will answer before you choose the software.

Why do online stores look for a Zendesk alternative?

Most pages that rank for this search start with why teams leave Zendesk. They are written by the companies hoping to receive them, so read those reasons as a pitch.

The one discussion thread on page one is more useful. In 2022 the owner of a two-person software business asked Reddit for a Zendesk alternative. They found Zendesk “bulky and not easy to dive into quickly”.[4]

The replies did not all say switch. Five of them said to fix the Zendesk setup or stay, and Freshdesk and Help Scout were the alternatives named most.[4] That business was not a store, and the poster turned down the one ecommerce help desk suggested for that reason.

A store has a different reason to look. Most of its questions are about an order or a product, as our guide to customer support for ecommerce shows. So the help desk is only as useful as what it knows about your orders.

That is the gap in the lists. They compare inboxes, seats and reports for support teams. They rarely ask whether a help desk can see a store’s orders, or whether its AI can answer from them.

Bottom line: a store should judge any Zendesk alternative by what it knows about its orders.

How I compared the Zendesk alternatives

I read the 15 pages that rank for “zendesk alternative” in the US and the UK. The same help desks appear on almost every list. Zoho Desk is on all 14 lists, and Freshdesk and Help Scout on 13.[3] This guide covers those, the rest of page one’s regulars, and a few built for stores.

I then checked each Zendesk alternative on its own website, help centre and app listings, on 2 October 2026. Each one answers the same five questions.

  1. Does your team see the customer’s orders? Next to the message, and who built that link.

  2. Can its AI answer from your orders? Ready-made, once someone builds it, or not at all.

  3. Where does it answer? Email, website chat, WhatsApp, the phone.

  4. How does a conversation reach a person? With what was said already attached.

  5. Who sets it up? You, or the company’s own team.

The order test needs one store platform, and I ran it on WooCommerce. On Shopify, nearly every help desk here connects, and the lists say so. Shopify is named 68 times on page one; WooCommerce 10 times, never as the reader’s platform.[3]

I run RuleInside, which is not a help desk and is not ranked here. Every claim about a product links to that company’s own page.

Bottom line: five tests, the same for every product, with the source for each answer.

Count the third column. Of the 14 Zendesk alternatives, only 2 have an AI that reads your WooCommerce orders without a build. They are Crisp, and Re:amaze in beta.

Bottom line: seeing orders is common; an AI that answers from them without a build is rare.

The Zendesk alternatives, one by one

The entries follow the table. First the two whose AI reads your orders, then those where you connect the AI yourself. Then the help desks that show orders to your team, and two with no store link found.

Crisp

Best for: a store that wants its AI to answer order questions without building anything.

Crisp has its own WooCommerce plugin. Once connected, Crisp “can access customer data, past orders, cart context, and order events depending on the customer session”.[5] Its AI agent, Hugo, comes with a ready-made WooCommerce connection. It has two tools, “Get user” and “Get order”.[6]

Hugo works on web chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email.[7] It can hand over automatically “when the user is frustrated or asks for a human”.[8] Calls reach your team through an Aircall connection.[9] I found no statement that Hugo answers calls.

Check: Crisp’s WooCommerce page mentions refunds.[10] The two WooCommerce tools listed for Hugo only read. Order details also depend on the customer being logged in to your store.[5]

Re:amaze

Best for: a store that wants order actions in one inbox, and can live with an AI in beta.

Re:amaze has a native WooCommerce integration. It shows a customer’s orders by their email address, and your team can refund and update orders from it.[11] Its AI Agent guide lists “WooCommerce products/orders” among its sources, across chat, email and SMS.[12]

Check: the AI Agent is labelled beta.[13] A second Re:amaze article lists Shopify orders as a source and not WooCommerce.[14] I found no article on how the AI Agent passes a conversation to a person. Ask which is current.

Freshdesk

Best for: a store that wants many channels in one place and has someone to build workflows.

Freshdesk lists WooCommerce among the integrations its AI agent workflows can use. They can “Fetch order details, update order status, manage cancellations, and track purchases”.[15] The workflow reaches your store through an API action block that you set up.[15]

Its AI agent, Freddy, answers on email, web chat, WhatsApp and social, and hands over “with full context”.[16] You can route a conversation to a person when a customer asks, or when it touches billing or refunds.[17]

Check: for your team to see orders, the WooCommerce apps in Freshworks’ marketplace come from other developers.[18] I found no WooCommerce setup guide for Freddy, and no AI on the phone.

Intercom

Best for: a store with a developer, or one that already uses Intercom.

Intercom’s AI agent, Fin, reaches WooCommerce through a data connector you configure. It can read orders and, if set up, run actions.[19] Building one needs Intercom’s developer hub permission, and its ready-made templates cover Shopify, Stripe and Statuspage.[20]

Fin for Ecommerce, its shopping version, “is purpose-built for Shopify”.[21] Fin answers in Intercom’s Messenger, email, WhatsApp, SMS, Facebook and Instagram.[22] Fin Voice answers calls, but it “is currently limited to select customers partnered with our Sales team.”[23]

Check: I found no Intercom app that shows WooCommerce orders to your team.

Tidio

Best for: a store that mainly needs live chat on its site, with AI for product questions.

Tidio installs as a WordPress plugin. Its listing says your team can “View visitor carts, order history, and send product cards directly in chat”.[24] Its AI agent, Lyro, can read your WooCommerce product catalogue.[25]

Orders are another matter. Tidio’s ready-made order status template is for Shopify.[26] On WooCommerce, an order lookup means a custom Action, which Tidio says “is meant for advanced users or developers”.[27]

Lyro answers in live chat by default, and can also take Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and your mailbox. During your online hours it offers a “Talk to a person” option.[25] I found no phone channel.

HubSpot Service Hub

Best for: a store that already runs its marketing and sales in HubSpot.

HubSpot builds its own Shopify sync.[28] I found no WooCommerce one built by HubSpot. The WooCommerce syncs come from other companies. One, by MakeWebBetter, creates a HubSpot deal “on every new woocommerce order”.[29] The help desk sidebar then shows the deals linked to a customer.[30]

HubSpot’s AI customer agent “can only currently access or update contact properties”, up to 10 of them.[31] To check an order elsewhere, you build a Custom API request action.[32] The agent works in chat, email, forms, WhatsApp, Facebook and calls, which are in beta.[33]

Check: the voice agent handles inbound calls only, and transfers to a person when needed.[34] HubSpot’s marketplace does not mark the MakeWebBetter app as working with Breeze, HubSpot’s AI.[29]

Salesforce Service Cloud

Best for: a larger store with a Salesforce admin or partner.

Salesforce builds no WooCommerce connector that I found. Other companies offer syncs that copy WooCommerce orders into Salesforce.[35] Salesforce’s ready-made order actions for its AI agent work with Salesforce’s own Order Management.[36]

For other systems, you configure the agent with tools like “Flows, prompt templates from Prompt Builder, Apex, and APIs”.[37] Agentforce Voice answers calls, and passes the caller to a person “with the full conversation history”.[38] Messaging and WhatsApp are covered too.[37]

Check: Salesforce’s Help Agent, launched in 2026, answers questions and manages cases out of the box. Order management is added in its builder.[39]

Zoho Desk

Best for: a store that already runs on Zoho apps and wants its team to see orders.

Zoho builds its own WooCommerce extension. It “creates support tickets for every WooCommerce order”, so your team sees order details without leaving Zoho Desk.[40]

Zoho’s Answer Bot answers from your knowledge base articles, and from ChatGPT or Zia’s generative AI if you connect them.[41] I found no statement that it reads WooCommerce orders. Zoho Desk covers email, phone, social media and live chat.[42]

Check: it creates a ticket for every order, not only the ones a customer writes about. Ask whether that suits your volume.

LiveAgent

Best for: a store that wants phone, chat and email in one help desk.

LiveAgent has a native WooCommerce integration that shows your orders in its ticket view.[43] It combines email, live chat, phone, social media and WhatsApp in one dashboard.[44]

Its AI chatbot runs on FlowHunt, a separate product, and answers from your knowledge sources. A visitor can click “Request chat with human agent” to reach your team.[45]

Check: for order status, LiveAgent’s setup service says the work “will require additional input and assistance from your team”.[46]

HappyFox

Best for: a store that wants its team to see orders, with onboarding included.

HappyFox builds its own WooCommerce app. Agents see “the WooCommerce customer information and their recent orders right within a HappyFox ticket”.[47] A read-only key is enough to connect it.

Its AI Chatbot works on your website, WhatsApp, Slack and Microsoft Teams, and hands off “with full context”.[48] Its phone system, AI Contact Center, routes calls to your team inside the help desk.[49]

Check: the order actions in HappyFox’s workflows are for Shopify.[50] I found no source where its AI reads WooCommerce orders.

Help Scout

Best for: a store that answers mostly by email and wants a simple shared inbox.

Help Scout shows up to 10 recent WooCommerce orders beside a conversation. But “The purchased plugin is required”, an extension sold on WooCommerce.com.[51] Its listing names OPMC as the maker, rated 2.5 out of 5 from 11 reviews.[52]

Help Scout’s AI Answers uses “your Docs knowledge base” to reply in its chat widget.[53] I found no source where it reads orders.

Check: on Shopify, Help Scout’s own app can refund, cancel and edit orders.[54] Its WooCommerce doc lists no such action, and asks you to “Enable the legacy REST API”.[51]

Gorgias

Best for: Shopify stores. On WooCommerce, the team sees orders but the AI Agent does not work.

Gorgias’s compatibility table marks its AI Agent “Not Supported” on WooCommerce.[55] Its setup guide lists a Shopify store as a requirement.[56]

Your team does see WooCommerce order information in the sidebar. But “You can’t initiate any actions on WooCommerce orders (create, edit, cancel, refund).”[57]

Front

Best for: B2B teams, and stores with a developer.

I found no WooCommerce integration from Front. Its route to outside data is a Connector you configure against an API, and its own example is Shopify.[58]

Its AI agent, Autopilot, works on email, SMS and WhatsApp, among others. Front says: “Only English is officially supported at this time.”[59]

Kayako

Best for: a team that wants the AI set up by the vendor’s experts.

Kayako says its whole deployment “is led by our experts”.[60] Its AI’s native integrations include Shopify, with API and webhook support for the rest.[61] I found no WooCommerce integration.

Bottom line: for a store, start your Zendesk alternative shortlist with the ones that read your orders.

Should you keep Zendesk instead?

Sometimes, yes. Five replies in that Reddit thread said the problem was the setup, not Zendesk.[4] For a store, Zendesk also changed in September.

On 4 September 2026, Zendesk added a WooCommerce connector for its action flows.[62] Its actions include “Lookup order” and “Search orders”, plus customers, products and coupons.[63] The list has no order edit, cancel or refund.

Zendesk’s AI agents can call a flow that is set to run on demand.[64] They work on messaging, email and voice.[65] On a call, the AI can pass the customer to a person, or take a voicemail if nobody is free.[66]

For your team to see orders beside each message, Zendesk relies on Marketplace apps made by other companies.[67] I found none made by Zendesk itself.

So the real question is who builds the flows. If you have someone, staying may beat switching. If you do not, a Zendesk alternative with a ready-made store link saves that work.

Bottom line: before switching, price what it would take to make Zendesk read your orders.

Why the answer changes between Shopify and WooCommerce

Many help desks build for Shopify first, and it shows in their own docs. Several features in the entries above stop at Shopify.

  • Gorgias: the AI Agent needs a Shopify store.[56]
  • Intercom: Fin for Ecommerce is built for Shopify.[21]
  • Tidio: the order status template is Shopify’s.[26]
  • Help Scout: refund, cancel and edit exist on Shopify.[54]
  • HappyFox: the order workflows are Shopify’s.[50]

So a list that says “integrates with WooCommerce” can mean very different things. It may be an order sidebar for your team, built by another company. Or it may be an AI that answers “where is my order?” from your store.

Ask every vendor the same question in the demo. Can your AI read this order number, from our store, today? Then ask who built the connection and who fixes it after an update.

Bottom line: “integrates with WooCommerce” is a claim to test with a real order number.

The phone: the channel the lists leave out

The lists compare email, chat and tickets. One ranking page, from an AI phone company, says so plainly: “most of these tools focus on ticketing, chat, and email.”[68]

Your customers may prefer to call. Our guide to customer support for ecommerce sets out the survey figures on which channels people prefer.

In the products above, the phone usually means your team answering. Crisp, LiveAgent and HappyFox, for example, route calls to people. An AI that answers the call itself is rarer. Zendesk and Salesforce have one, HubSpot’s is in beta, and Intercom’s is for select customers.

If calls matter to your store, test the phone and the store link together. An AI on the phone that cannot see the order still has to say “let me get someone”.

Ask three things in the demo. Who picks up when the AI cannot answer? What happens when nobody is free? And does the call, with what was said, reach the same inbox as your emails?

Bottom line: if your customers call, check who answers the phone before you compare inboxes.

Switching from Zendesk: what to move

Moving starts with your history. Help Scout, for example, can “import your entire ticket history” from Zendesk with its Import2 feature.[69] Ask each vendor what its import carries over.

Plan the move in this order, so customers notice nothing:

  1. Export your past emails and customers. Check that attachments and notes come across.

  2. Move your help articles. The AI answers from them, so fix old ones on the way.

  3. Rebuild your saved replies. Keep only the ones your team still uses.

  4. Connect your store first. Test it on a real order number before anything else.

  5. Set the handover rules. Decide what always goes to a person, such as refunds.

  6. Switch your support address last. Then watch both inboxes for a week.

The store connection deserves the most care. It is the part most likely to depend on another company’s plugin.

Bottom line: move the store link and the handover rules first, and the email address last.

A help desk, or someone to answer?

A help desk is where people answer. The operator’s advice had steps after it: a dedicated virtual assistant once support takes several hours a day, then an outsourced team.[1] Our guide to outsourcing customer service covers those steps.

The AI inside a help desk can take some answering off your team. How much depends on the second test above: whether it reads your orders. Our comparison of AI customer service agents covers the agents that work inside or beside a help desk.

There is also a different route: an agent that answers for you, set up and run by someone else. RuleInside is one, and it is mine, so weigh this accordingly. Our guide to managed AI explains how that route works.

It reads your live WooCommerce products, stock, orders and tracking. It answers by phone, chat, WhatsApp and email, and passes calls to you live. It does not change orders: anything that moves money comes to a person. The details are on our AI customer support page.

Bottom line: choose the help desk for how your team works, and decide separately who answers.

Which Zendesk alternative fits your store?

Start from what your store has, and who will answer. Then match it to these cases.

  • You want AI to answer order questions without a build. Crisp has a ready-made WooCommerce order tool. Re:amaze lists orders as a source, in beta.
  • Your team answers, and needs orders on screen. Zoho Desk, LiveAgent and HappyFox build their own WooCommerce link.
  • You answer mostly by email. Help Scout is simple, but its WooCommerce link depends on another company’s extension.
  • You have a developer. Freshdesk, Intercom and Tidio can reach your orders through what you build.
  • Your sales and marketing run in HubSpot or Salesforce. Their agents reach WooCommerce orders only through what you or a partner build.
  • Your customers call. Check the phone and the store link together. Only some put AI on the phone.
  • You are moving to Shopify. Gorgias is built for it, and most help desks above connect to it.

Whichever you pick, test each Zendesk alternative on your own questions. Ask it about a real order, then about something it cannot know.

Bottom line: the right Zendesk alternative reads your orders and fits the people who answer.

Your next step

Watch an AI agent answer a store's customers

Before you choose a help desk, see what an agent can answer on its own.

  • Watch our AI voice agent answer questions on the Velàri Skincare demo store.
  • Then hear what we would deploy on your store, and what each agent recovers.
  • Twenty minutes, with me. No pitch and no obligation.

It is our own product, so test it the way this guide tests the others.

Questions Store Owners Ask About Zendesk Alternatives

Zendesk’s main competitors are Zoho Desk, Freshdesk, Help Scout, Intercom, HubSpot Service Hub and Salesforce Service Cloud. They appear on almost every list that ranks for this search.

For online stores, most lists add Gorgias, whose AI Agent needs Shopify.

The best Zendesk alternative for an online store is the one that reads your orders and suits who answers. There is no single winner.

On WooCommerce, Crisp has a ready-made order tool for its AI. Zoho Desk, LiveAgent and HappyFox show orders to your team.

Zendesk is similar to other help desks: Freshdesk, Zoho Desk, Help Scout and HubSpot Service Hub. Each gathers emails, chats and calls into one shared inbox.

They differ in what they connect to. For a store, compare what each one knows about your orders.

Yes, there are Zendesk alternatives built for ecommerce, such as Gorgias and Re:amaze. Gorgias’s AI Agent needs Shopify, though.

On WooCommerce, check the order link product by product. The table above shows what each one does.

Zendesk alternatives whose AI reads WooCommerce orders include Crisp and Re:amaze, in beta. Freshdesk, Intercom, Tidio, HubSpot and Salesforce can, once someone builds the connection.

Zoho Desk, LiveAgent, HappyFox and Gorgias show orders to your team, not to their AI. Checked on 2 October 2026.

Some Zendesk alternatives answer the phone with AI. Salesforce has Agentforce Voice, HubSpot’s voice agent is in beta, and Intercom’s Fin Voice is for select customers.

Most others route calls to your team. If calls matter, test the phone and the order link together.

Keeping Zendesk makes sense if someone can build its WooCommerce action flows. Zendesk added the connector in September 2026.

Its actions look up and search orders, but do not edit or refund them. Price that build before you switch.

Yes, you can keep your email history if the new help desk imports it from Zendesk. Help Scout, for one, does with Import2.

Check that attachments, notes and customer records come across. Then switch your support address last.

The best AI in a Zendesk alternative, for a store, is one that reads your orders. An AI that only knows your help articles cannot say where an order is.

Ask each vendor to answer a real order question in the demo. Then ask how it hands over to a person.

A store with no support team needs less of a help desk and more of an answer. Most Zendesk alternatives assume people who answer.

Look at what the AI answers on its own, or at a managed agent run for you. Count your weekly questions first.

Stefano has run businesses since 2013, starting with property management in Panama, where a missed call meant an empty unit. In 2018 he founded EarthMeals, a plant-based ready-meals ecommerce brand covered by Vanity Fair Italia, Wired and Il Corriere. The pandemic took its demand, and he closed it in 2021. Over the next four years he consulted more than 30 businesses across Italy, Spain and the US. The ecommerce stores showed the support gap worst. He spent the last year testing AI voice platforms against real stores, then built RuleInside. He leads every deployment personally.

How I wrote this guide

Who wrote it. I did. I run RuleInside, which builds and runs managed AI agents. It is not a help desk and is not ranked here.

The products. I checked each Zendesk alternative on its own website, help pages and app listings on 2 October 2026. I describe what each company says its product does; I did not buy and test every one. There are no prices, by choice: they change, and each company’s page has them.

Page one. I read the 15 pages that rank for “zendesk alternative” in the US and the UK. Ubersuggest recorded them in July and September 2026. I counted who publishes each one and which products they list.

Every other figure. Each links to its source below, and each source was opened and read.

Updates. I revise this guide when a product changes. The date at the top shows the last real update.
